Patients ask me “What sort of things can I do to fix my hormones?
Well, this is why I have my magic wand in the office which I use quite regularly when people say “don’t you just have a tablet I can take or something?”
“No”, I say, “sometimes you have to eat food during the day and not just drink coffee!”
My prize-winning patient clocked in at 14 coffees a day, with no food and wondered why he couldn’t sleep and had anxiety! Sheesh! This is why I need a wand….sometimes to hit them over the head instead of waving it!
So make sure you are eating well during the day from start to finish.
Ensuring you are eating enough protein to keep your blood sugars steady.
And make sure you attempting to get at least 7-8 hours’ sleep.
Also if you have poor adrenal status, don’t over-exercise. I see quite a few patients who feel exhausted but still force themselves out to boot camp and boxercise and the like 4 or 5 times a week. Stop it!
What do you do for fun? Do you have down time? Many of my patients have stressful work or home lives and it’s hard for them to change this apart from changing a job, which is not always practical.
And I feel there is definitely the superwoman syndrome where women are expected (often by their own expectations) to be wife, mother, lover, worker, taxi, chief cook and washer woman.
Wouldn’t it be great if minions came on prescription? I think we all need minions.
And if you can’t have minions, the best thing you can do is laugh. Have a good belly laugh.
It is the best medicine.
